Happy Birthday, TotaLand!

Happy Birthday TotaLand!

In November, 2004, the very earliest incarnation of TotaLand was used for the first time to facilitate an acquisition project.  It also happened to be the first, last and only time I personally used TotaLand for land work.  Since then we have deliberately not worked as landmen in order to avoid any conflict of interest.

As our ten-year anniversary approached, I became curious about some of our global metrics, and asked the staff to look into it.  I guess I didn't have a firm expectation of what the results would be, but I can say that I found them interesting enough to want to share with our readers.

TotaLand by the Numbers - the first 10 years

6,000 users
from 43 states,
worked on 17,000 projects,
in 500 counties across 28 states,
creating 290,000 tracts,
380,000 instruments,
208,000 parties and
25,000 ownership reports.
They created 95,000 contract records,
generated 25,000 executable contracts,
assembled 9,200 contract packets and
generated 7,200 abstracts.

Those same users created 1,200,000 billing items
used for 29,000 client invoices
totaling $315,000,000

TotaLand GIS mappers resolved 13,000 polygon requests
and our clients' GIS people resolved another 43,000.

And for the techies out there,
our web servers handled 175,000,000 hits
over 2,700,000 sessions.

And finally, a consistent 98% of our users tell us they would recommend using TotaLand!

Our first decade has been very rewarding-not only for the reasons you might expect-but even more so because of the tremendous satisfaction we derive from watching the product grow and evolve, and in knowing that we are having a significant and positive impact on the industry, and people, we love.

So what will the next decade bring?  Well we think about that a lot around here.  With our continued growth, we get asked often about if/when we plan to get into the lease management arena currently dominated by Tobin and Quorum.  My answer is that we will never take our eye off of the task of making TotaLand the absolute best tool for land brokerages available.  We have many ideas of how to keep raising the bar and those refinements and additional functionality will never stop being released to our loyal base.  That being said, TotaLand's unique design gives us an unparalleled opportunity to address the needs of the lease management side in ways not possible with the old tract-based or lease-based methodology.  Watch for the industry's first unified land system to emerge in the not-too-distant future.

Thanks to everyone for making our first decade so successful, and best wishes for the upcoming holiday season and a great start to 2015!
