2014 Off to a Roaring Start

It’s hard to believe that we are almost 5 months into 2014.  Well, time flies when you’re having fun, but when I look back, in some ways it’s hard to believe how much has happened already.

TotaLand for Tracking Leasehold
TotaLand has always been an excellent tool for facilitating acquisition projects and for overall managing a land brokerage.  For almost 10 years now and through tens of millions of user clicks, TotaLand has evolved into a finely-tuned instrument serving the needs of our brokerage clients.  In the last few months, however, smaller to mid-size E&P clients have begun to discover the ability of TotaLand to track their leasehold effectively and affordably.

Lease-based database systems are known to be ineffective at mapping leasehold.  TotaLand’s unique design has all of the benefits of both lease-based and tract-based systems, without the drawbacks.  As a result, we have added a number of clients recently who are using TotaLand solely to track critical aspects of their leasehold, including significant dates and provisions such as assignability restrictions and short continuous drilling requirements.

AAPL Technology Committee
Some of you are already aware that I have been serving as the Chairman of the AAPL Technology committee for almost a year now, during which we have focused almost exclusively on identifying a suitable replacement for our existing Association Management System (AMS).  An AMS is the business core of any association and touches virtually every aspect of operations, from membership to certification to event registration.  I am happy to report that the new solution has been identified and that contract negotiations are well underway.  I expect the new solution to be up and running in either 4Q14 or 1Q15.

Although my term as chair is nearing its end, I will be serving as AAPL Treasurer next year and will be Executive Committee liaison to the Technology Committee, so I will still have the privelege of overseeing the implementation of the new AMS.  Feel free to contact me with any questions, issues or concerns you have in regard to the new AMS and AAPL websites.

NAPE East
Almost 2,000 of us gathered in Pittsburgh in April for the second annual NAPE East.  The weather was beautiful and the crowd was enthusiastic.  We had a wonderful time meeting clients and prospective clients at our booth, and the NAPE planners (and others) provided many networking opportunities.  If you have not yet attended either of the “Regional” NAPE events, I highly recommend you do so.  The slower pace is very conducive to better communication.  I hope to see you at NAPE Rockies!
