So Much to be Thankful For...
Yes—I realize that we are sending out the November newsletter in December. More than just being a ‘better late than never’ situation, I’m actually pleased to be writing this after spending Thanksgiving with family and friends.
It is a great thing to set aside a time of year to focus on the many things for which we should be thankful. It is easy to take family and friends for granted when they are close at hand. Let us never forget how much of a blessing they are, remembering that many in our industry spend much of their time away from those they love.
I am very thankful for our industry itself. It remains one of the most fascinating areas, with the only requirement to entry and ultimate success is good sense, hard work, grit and determination. Sure we go through our ups and downs, but I would not trade it for anything.
Our industry puts food on the table for its many direct participants, but has an even greater impact when you think about how necessary the land function is for the oil and gas industry as a whole. I am thankful that the work we do can have such a positive impact on so many people.
I am thankful for our great nation and its incredible history. Sure, the point could be made that we are going in the wrong direction in many ways, and certainly not as unified as we have been in the past, but I prefer to focus on the positives of the tremendous liberties we still enjoy. You don’t have to think long about conditions in other parts of the world to remember how wonderful it is to live here. I am thankful for the many sacrifices made by members of our armed forces both currently and in previous generations that allow us these wonderful freedoms.
Finally, I am thankful for our TotaLand family—clients, users, employees, vendors, etc. It has been a super 9 years, with every reason to look forward to the future. I am truly blessed to get do what I do day in and day out. It is my hope and prayer that each and every one of us will have even more to be thankful for in 2014! Thank you for reading and I hope you and yours have a wonderful, safe and Merry Christmas!
